What Is Mycelium, and Why Should You Care?
Mycelium is the root-like network of fungi—the part that lives underground while mushrooms bloom above the surface. It’s nature’s recycler, breaking down organic matter and returning nutrients to the earth.
In our studio, we feed mycelium a blend of local waste—think orange peels from juice bars, sawdust from woodshops, and discarded cardboard—to grow strong, versatile materials. These materials are then moulded using reusable thermoformed moulds into acoustic panels, lampshades, and other home goods that are not only beautiful but also biodegradable and carbon-negative.
Yes, carbon-negative. That means our products actually store more carbon than they emit throughout their lifecycle—something most conventional furniture can’t say.
